The idea for this painting came to me a few years ago but I was never able to find exactly the right reference photo. Then one day while walking at night in Little Italy NYC, I spotted a person pulling an unbelievably large and intricate cart filled with bottles and hangings bags, patched together via use of both ingenuity and items found on the streets of NYC. I was immediately intrigued by the immense size of the cart as well as the hunched posture of the person pulling it, which was undoubtedly caused by countless years of pulling its extreme weight. It is unfathomable that in the so called “Greatest” and “Richest” city in the world, more than 85,000 peoples are currently homeless and struggle to eat and find shelter everyday. What would you do to survive?
