In the wake of the ongoing senseless school shootings, I felt compelled to paint this scene with the hope that it would raise awareness and help to bring about stricter gun laws that would contain more in-depth background checks and in addition full psychological evaluations. I decided to paint this from the perspective of a child hiding under a chair so the viewer can feel the indescribable fear of the child anxiously hiding and awaiting his/her or her fate. Schools should be a safe haven where learning takes place, not a place where the unimaginable happens, children and school staff senselessly being shot and killed.
