I was inspired to paint this painting when I heard about the death of Mahhsa Amini, a 22-year old Iranian woman. Her death took place while in the custody of Iran’s Morality Police. She is suspected to have been beaten by the Morality Police, causing or contributing to her death. She was inappropriately wearing her hijab, was arrested for it and that ultimately led to her death.
